To make snowman donut skewers, slide 3 powdered donuts onto a wooden skewer, leaving a little room at the top, and set a peanut butter cup on top for the hat. Tie a piece of red licorice between the top and middle donuts for a scarf, push in two pretzel sticks for arms, then add mini chocolate chip eyes and a piece of orange candy for the nose. It’s a no-bake, 10-minute Christmas treat; one batch makes 4 snowmen from 12 donuts.

These snowman donut skewers are always on the menu for holiday parties and make the perfect treat to hand-out to friends at school. My kids request this fun and festive treat every year during the cold winter months.

how to make snowman donut skewers

You’ll find the exact amounts and printable steps in the recipe card below. Here’s what each step looks like, plus the little things that make it work.

1. Stack the donuts. Carefully slide 3 powdered donuts onto each skewer, leaving a little room at the top for the peanut butter cup. Go slowly and twist the skewer as you push so the soft donuts don’t tear.

2. Add the hat. Set a peanut butter cup upside down on the tip of the skewer above the top donut for the snowman’s hat.

3. Add the scarf and arms. Wrap a stick of red licorice between the top and middle donuts for the scarf, then press two pretzel sticks into either side of the middle donut for the arms.

4. Decorate the face. Lay the snowman on a flat surface and decorate the face with mini chocolate chips for the eyes and a piece of orange candy for the nose. If the pieces won’t stay put, a tiny dot of frosting works like glue.

Assembling a snowman donut skewer with a licorice scarf and pretzel stick arms

snowman donuts for Christmas parties and class treats

These are our go-to for school holiday parties, a kids’ board at a Christmas get-together, or a fun winter lunchbox surprise. Stand them up in a tall glass or lay them on a platter, and let the kids help build them; they’re easy enough for little hands.

can you make them ahead?

They’re best assembled the day you serve them, so the donuts stay soft and the pretzels stay crunchy. You can make them a few hours ahead and keep them covered at room temperature until party time.

how to store leftovers

Wrap any leftover skewers or keep them in an airtight container at room temperature and enjoy them within a day or two. The pretzels will soften the longer they sit.

I hope you enjoy this recipe as much as we do. It’s definitely one of those recipes worth saving to use year after year. These snowman donut skewers are so fun to make and delicious to eat. My kids often request these donut skewers to be their treat for their lunchboxes during the winter months.
