Caramel apple dumplings are apple wedges rolled up in crescent roll dough, baked in a brown sugar and cinnamon butter sauce until golden, then drizzled with caramel sauce. They take about 50 minutes, make 16 dumplings and are best served warm with vanilla ice cream.
These caramel apple dumplings are the best! Made with crescent rolls for ease and rolled up into sweet, cinnamon and apple pillowy treats. Topped with caramel sauce and best served with a big scoop of vanilla ice cream. This easy apple dumpling recipe is dangerously delicious!

As a little girl growing up in Pennsylvania with some seriously strong roots to the Pennsylvania Dutch; I don’t think that I remember a fall without apple dumplings. There were the trips to my great-grandmother’s house, visits to the orchard, and let’s not forget the annual Apple Dumpling Festival. We always left those outings with happy bellies and apple dumplings to go.
And then I remember my dad sitting down for breakfast the next morning, apple dumplings, vanilla ice cream and coffee in hand. This apple dessert is one of a kind that’s perfect for fall, but truly delicious anytime of the year. Apple dumplings can also be enjoyed for breakfast, lunch, or dinner!

how to make caramel apple dumplings
You’ll find the exact amounts and printable steps in the recipe card below. Here’s what each step looks like, plus the little things that make it work.
1. Preheat and slice the apples. Preheat the oven to 350°F. Peel and core the apples, then cut each one into 8 equal wedges. Peeling is recommended, but it’s okay to leave the peels on, since they soften as the dumplings bake. An apple slicer cores and cuts them in one push.

2. Roll up the dumplings. Open both cans of crescent roll dough and separate them into triangles. Place one apple wedge at the wide end of each triangle and roll it up toward the point.

3. Seal and arrange. Pinch the dough to seal and line the dumplings up in a prepared baking dish.

4. Make the brown sugar butter. Melt the butter in a small saucepan over low heat, then stir in the brown sugar and cinnamon until well combined.

5. Pour and bake. Pour the butter mixture evenly over the apple dumplings and bake until golden brown, 40–45 minutes.

6. Drizzle with caramel and serve. Let the dumplings cool for about 5 minutes, then drizzle with caramel sauce. Serve warm with a side of vanilla ice cream.

what are the best apples for apple dumplings?
I like Honeycrisp apples for their extra sweetness, but any crisp apple works in this recipe. Large apples give you nice, thick wedges that hold their shape in the crescent dough.
how do you store leftover apple dumplings?
Let leftovers cool, cover the dish and refrigerate within 2 hours. Enjoy them within 3–4 days, and rewarm them in the microwave or oven before serving. Add a fresh drizzle of caramel once they’re warm.
I hope you enjoy this recipe as much as we do. It’s definitely one of those recipes worth saving. There’s nothing better than having what looks and tastes like a gourmet dessert on the table, but one that saves you time behind the scenes.
