One of Kyle’s and my favorite low-key things to do when we were first dating was have a Friday night make-your-own-pizza night. Somewhat of a competition, we would prepare our own individual and unique toppings of choice and then have a sampling of both to determine a winner.

The combination of fresh jalapeños, cheddar cheese, bacon and cream cheese was and always will be, a very strong contender.

Two kids later, pizza night is still very much a thing in our house but it’s been elevated by the ease of flatbread. Now, instead of Kyle and I dueling off on our pizza topping skills, it’s all about meshing those creative ideas we once came up with into a single flatbread pizza we share.

The best part for me is seeing our kids create their own personalized pizza of choice. All of which is super simple to facilitate thanks to flatbread pizza (and Aldi because they have a great one that comes in a pack of two!)

So, if you’re a busy mom like me, craving the nostalgia of pizza nights while also cherishing the ease and customization that flatbreads provide, wait until you give this jalapeño popper flatbread pizza a try. It’s about to be your new favorite pizza topping!

why you’ll love flatbread pizza

  • Versatility: Flatbread pizza provides the perfect canvas for all your pizza creativity. Whether you prefer classic flavors or unique combinations, you have the freedom to experiment and customize to your heart’s content.
  • Speedy Preparation: When you’re short on time, flatbread pizza comes to the rescue. Unlike traditional pizza dough, flatbread requires no kneading and often has shorter baking times. It’s the ideal choice for those nights when you need a satisfying meal on the table in a hurry.
  • Crispy and Thin Crust: If you’re a fan of thin and crispy crust, flatbread pizza is a dream come true. The thinness allows for quicker cooking, resulting in a delightful crunch that enhances the overall eating experience. It’s a match made in pizza heaven for anyone who loves a thin, crisp base.
  • Easy Customization: One of the most appealing aspects of flatbread pizza is the ability to customize it to suit your taste buds. Whether you’re a lover of fresh veggies, smoky meats, or a variety of cheeses, you can select the toppings that fancy your palate.
  • Perfect for Sharing: Flatbread pizza is a fantastic option for gatherings or family meals. Since flatbread can be easily cut into smaller portions, everyone can enjoy their favorite toppings and create their own personal pizzas. how to make jalapeno popper pizza

You’ll find the exact amounts and printable steps in the recipe card below. Here’s what each step looks like, plus the little things that make it work.

1. Preheat the oven. Preheat your oven to 350°F.

2. Spread the cream cheese. Spread the softened cream cheese over the flatbread, almost to the edges.

3. Add the toppings. Top with the cheddar cheese, cooked bacon and jalapeño slices. Season with salt and pepper to taste.

4. Bake and garnish. Bake for 10 to 12 minutes, until the cheese is melted and the edges are golden. Garnish with green onions and extra jalapeño slices, if desired.

how to store and reheat jalapeño popper flatbread

Wrap leftover slices or store them in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 to 4 days. Reheat them on a baking sheet at 350°F for about 5 minutes, or in the air fryer for 3 to 4 minutes, so the crust crisps back up. The microwave makes the flatbread soft.

tips for the best jalapeño popper flatbread pizza

  • Soften the cream cheese first. Room-temperature or whipped cream cheese spreads easily without tearing the flatbread.
  • Cook the bacon until crisp. The bake is short, so the bacon won’t crisp in the oven. Crisp it first and crumble it.
  • Control the heat. Scrape out the seeds and ribs for a milder pizza, or leave a few in if you like it spicy.
  • Bake right on the oven rack (or on a preheated pizza stone) for a crispier bottom crust.
  • Make one for everyone. Flatbreads often come in packs of two, so it’s easy to make a plain cheese one for the kids alongside this one.

I hope you enjoy this recipe as much as we do. It’s definitely one of those recipes worth saving. There’s nothing better than having what looks and tastes like a gourmet meal on the table, but one that saves you time behind the scenes.

jalapeño popper flatbread FAQs

How do I make jalapeño popper pizza less spicy?

Remove the seeds and white ribs from the jalapeños, which hold most of the heat. You can also use half as many, or swap in pickled jalapeños for a milder, tangy bite.

What flatbread works best?

Any store-bought flatbread works. We use a stone-baked artisan flatbread that comes in a 2-pack. Naan and large pita work too, though pita bakes a little crispier.

Can I use pickled jalapeños?

Yes. Pat them dry first so the pizza doesn’t get soggy. They’re milder and a little tangy.

Can I add chicken?

Yes. Scatter about ½ cup of shredded rotisserie chicken over the cream cheese before adding the cheddar to make it a more filling dinner.

Can I serve this as an appetizer?

Yes. Cut the flatbread into small squares or strips for a party appetizer or game-day snack.
