And the best part of this meal? It all comes together on one sheet pan. You are simply placing the salmon filets and broccolini in one harmonious pan to bake and then toping it with a caper cream sauce–also made in one pan!
What kind of pasta should I use for salmon capers and broccolini pasta?
You can use any pasta for this, but I highly recommend pappardelle or tagliatelle pasta! They are both egg noodles and really soak up and hold any sauce you place on top. You are going to want to take in all the deliciousness that the caper cream sauce adds to this recipe.
If you are sticking with a more low carb diet and prefer not to include the pasta in this dish, that is perfectly fine. This salmon capers and broccolini dish has so much flavor in itself!
Capers are one of my favorite secret ingredients to add into any recipe. They just give it an extra zing!
What is broccolini?
Broccolini is a cross-breed of broccoli and Chinese broccoli, a leafy vegetable commonly referred to as gai lan in Cantonese or jie lan in Mandarin. You get the florets found in broccoli and the longer stems and leaves found in Chinese broccoli. It’s a pretty epic mix of the two.
When it comes to flavor, broccolini also falls somewhere in the middle. It’s mellower and less bitter than regular broccoli, with a mild sweetness much more comparable to Chinese broccoli.
Broccolini has to be my most favorite vegetable and like all veggies, I prefer them roasted, hands down! To me, broccolini feels like an amazing mesh of broccoli and spinach. Crunchy yet leafy; phenomenal texture. It’s a very beautiful thing. If you don’t have broccolini on hand, broccoli or spinach would be an excellent substitute for this dish.
Where can I find the best salmon for this salmon caper and broccolini pasta dish?
I get my wild caught salmon from Butcher Box. It’s my favorite salmon by far. You can tell it is amazing quality. Also, love that it comes delivered right to my doorstep. One less trip to the grocery store always helps! It comes frozen and individually packaged, but tastes so incredibly fresh. It’s super easy to thaw and prepare when it comes to meal prep. ButcherBox salmon comes with the skin on which we are huge fans of although you can absolutely opt for skinless salmon filets for this recipe.
